Jacob Sheep

  Agriculture

Arable:

With its farming partners, the estate produces a wide range of organic and conventional cereals, root crops, and legumes on the low ground farms.

Livestock:

The in-hand hill ground has a Blackface Sheep flock of over 1,000 ewes run in conjunction with the use of the lowground for wintering the breeding stock and fattening lambs.

At Belnollo organic farm we purchase store cattle for fattening and hold flocks of Blackface and Jacob Sheep. The Jacob Sheep flock has been on Abercairny since at least 1815 and is one of the oldest flocks in Scotland. Jacob's Sheep
are said to have arrived in Britain from the shipwrecked spanish ships of the Armada.
